San Giuliano terme is the village where you will find th Rocca in about 11 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n
you will get there by car passing through Massaciuccoli village<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They arise overlooking and dominating the rice fields from above <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Serchio river close to Monte Pisano mounbtain system you do not<\/p>\n\n\n\n
confuse with the Pisan Hills<\/p>\n\n\n\n
History tells us that the Rocca was born as a customs outpost<\/p>\n\n\n\n
because it stood between Pisa and Lucca<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This area is called Colle Vergario it was the strategic location because <\/p>\n\n\n\n
it stood on the road connected Pisa to Lucca<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They also called it Rocca di San paolino patron saint of Lucca<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Built by Consortium of the local noble Da Ripafratta family<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its construction served to collect road and river tolls <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lucchesi took over the building and the Nobles not knowing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
defend themselves they asked for help by The Pisans<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Pisans managed to recover Ripafratta <\/p>\n\n\n\n
the customs duties applied by the family and the designated<\/p>\n\n\n\n
place under Pisan influence<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the years it was sold again and again and increasingly fortified<\/p>\n\n\n\n
enlarged and made more and more secure<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The construction of the city walls dates back to this period existing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
today<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The increasingly disputed Castle over the centuries was taken from <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fiorentini<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iregular polygonal plan with a tower in the centre quadrangular<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and two other towers flank the Walls<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to support donations in order to recover the Rocca<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It can be visited by walking up to the fortress by a path<\/p>\n\n\n\n
easy even for the less experienced<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The interior is all collapsed but full of hungry vegetation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
