The heart of Badia di Cantignano : where it is located

Badia di Cantignano is located about 18 km (about 25 km minutes by car ) from the B&B Sunrise and lies in the municipality of Capannori in the province of Lucca

The museum is open to tell the story of a heritage that comes from distant roots in the landscape and spirituality and to understand the daily life of Badia di Cantignano

The heart of Badia di Cantignano : History

The Badia di Cantignano is located in an ideal place for spiritual retreat, prayer and meditation

In the Monti Pisani area, it is safe and far from the coast: the historic via Aurelia, infested by bandits who attempted to attack pilgrims traveling to or from Rome along the Via Romea or Via Francigena

Destroyed several Times rebuilt during the war between Pisa and Lucca, it was rebuilt by the Camaldolese monks in the 12th and 13th centuries

It was also known as the “Palace of a Hundred Windows” and was built by the Camaldolese in 1455

The abbey known as San Salvatore di Cantignano ceased to exist and was established as the parish of the Badia di Cantignano consecrated to Saint Bartholomew

It is unique restored work because it uses the Babylonian time system

The methos used in the East but rarely in italy has been positioned on the walls of the cloister of the building known as the “Cento Finestre as Hundred windows!

The museum houses valuable Lombard stone artifacts such as enigmatic frescoes, Roman mosaic tiles, and fragments of painted plaster

An immersive video installation accompanies visitors throughout their visit

In 1965 and 1966 the most significant finds wer discovered in the area currently occupied by the church

Each find offers a clue and a collection of different identities recounted through different eras and functions
